I entered 2 quilts in the state fair. They are the first and only 2 quilts I’ve ever made. I didn’t expect to win anything. I just wanted to participate. Then this happened.
I am pretty sure it was a total fluke. You can enter your projects in any category that you want to. This quilt would have qualified for either the holiday category or the hand-tied category. I didn’t have any experience as to what to do. The lady checking me in suggested that I put it with the hand-tied category because there normally isn’t that many entries. I guess she was right.
While I went to visit my quilt I stopped by the stamp display. I was asked for the second year in a row to be a judge for the stamping and scrapbooking. The judging is a blind judging. We don’t know who stamped the projects while we are judging. I wanted to go back and see who we voted for.
Here are a few pictures of the winners. My friend Diane won several ribbons. I met a new friend CarolAnn while I was there.
CarolAnn made this cool card with Walter White on the front. We thought it was quite clever. It said “Have a White Christmas” on the inside.
It was fun meeting an artist. I love seeing what everyone creates and how clever people are. It was so much fun getting to meet and talk to someone about their work. CarolAnn told me about how she developed the card idea when she saw a scrap of paper lying on her table that looked like Walter White’s beard. She re-shaped it a little and made it into this card. What a clever idea!
Everyone is so talented and creative. I think I will be entering more things into the fair next year. Maybe I should also enter some of the baking contests. I have been told that I should at least enter my chocolate chip cookies. At least with those I have had the luxury of practicing a few million times.
If you could enter something in the state fair what would you enter? Post a photo in the comments. I might have a little contest of my own right here.
