I wanted to try something new today. Bleach with Good Morning Magnolia is so much fun. I started with a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock. First I stamped and embossed the large flower with gold embossing powder. After it cooled, I brushed bleach on the inside of the flower and leaves. In some places it took a few layers of bleach to get the paper and pigment to bleach out. It will never, I don’t think, bleach to a true white or even anything close. In my experience there will always be some form of color left.
I went back in after it dried and added a little color with the Stampin’ Blends. I didn’t fill the space with color but just added a few highlights with the lightest of colors. Where you see the stark white is where the bleach worked a little bit better.
The bleach will not blend color. I tried to make it do that. The other caution is that at some point in my experimenting, I discovered that the Blends will actually smear the embossing powder. I am not sure if I have old embossing powder or if that’s what it really does all of the time. So I guess what I am trying to tell you is that if you are working on something that you might not want to throw away, proceed with caution.
I wanted the image to be the star of the card. It’s kind of hard not to make it that way because it’s so big. By offsetting it on the card, I thought it would give it the space it needed. I layered it with both gold and a lighter color to reflect the bleached areas. I showed my son and he said that it was the prettiest card I had ever made.
Ok. So either, he has a super short memory or I am finally getting better after 23 years.
I will leave it up to you.
Here is the Poppy Parade version. I really love how you don’t ever know what you’re gonna get with the bleach. The pigment of the paper is such a surprise.
Try bleach with Good Morning Magnolia. You will have fun!
